Re: 2008 Suburban vs 2000 Excursion AC Functionality

Man this thread has been too quiet. OP can you tell me how much room you have over the existing FS10 compressor? That is to say if you measure straight off of the mounting bolts, how much taller (or larger in diameter) could the compressor be, before it had an interference with something else underh...

Re: Low side normal /high side low stumped

All I can say is the makers of Hush Mat, Dynamat, Dreck mat etc, do not publish R values for their products. Wrap a couple of layers of bubble wrap on an arm or leg and see how well it holds heat. Insulation rated by R value is usually thicker than 1/4 inch. We can foam a 1 ton cargo van and it gets...

Re: 2008 Suburban vs 2000 Excursion AC Functionality

I would go for the smaller pulley if available. With a Diesel you have a narrow operating range compared to the gas engine. So you don't have to deal with the 5500 engine rpm at WOT upshift. Detroit: Yes, please share the 250cc compressor info. Here in the southwest where it can still be over 100f a...

Careful Detroit.

Excursion owners are cult like. Nearly as bad as the Rx7 guys. Cutting one up could draw fire...

Re: 2008 Suburban vs 2000 Excursion AC Functionality

Actually If the bolt holes fail to line up at all with the pulley in the right place, making an adapter is pretty simple.

It gets harder when one or more holes ALMOST line up.

Re: 2008 Suburban vs 2000 Excursion AC Functionality

Interesting approach. I assume you mean replacing the FS10 in the Ford?

Might not be too hard, I have never compared the gauge lines and mounting bolts on the two units. I have put V7's in places they were never used, so why not?

Re: 2008 Suburban vs 2000 Excursion AC Functionality

Pump capacity matters. Been saying it here for decades.

I get a big laugh every time an A6 gets swapped for a little SD508 on an old GM product. Then the shop blames the "new refrigerant" (134a)

I like the "throw the keys at the dealer" reference for the damn scroll pumps.

Re: Low side normal /high side low stumped

Melamine foam has an R value of about 3.5 per inch of thickness. Closed cell sprayed in foam is R7 per inch. If you don't mind spraying some glue to stick it down, Polydamp PLE has an even better R value than sprayed foam. https://www.polytechinc.com/products/thermal-insulation-foam Melamine can pic...

Re: Low side normal /high side low stumped

If memory serves the Excursion Diesel has a 3 port vacuum operated heater control valve. That valve may be leaking hot water in to the heater core. Pay attention to crimping heater hoses off - you can close off a bypass loop that needs to stay open for the rest of the cooling system. A hose coupler ...
