Re: Compressor not holding vacuum
I had no idea that a Sanden would have isolation valves like a York. Those were the good old days. I liked the manual isolation valves; I installed that used compressor and only lost a tad of R-12. I used a 1/4-inch socket upside down, using a L-shaped allen wrench to turn the socket on the 1/4-ich...

Re: Possible blockage
Post both high and low side pressures at about 1800 rpm after a couple of minutes.

Re: Compressor not holding vacuum
Even though this site's software won't "remember me", I do remember that my 1984 V6 Jeep Cherokee had a Sanden compressor. When it seized in the early 1990s, and compressors were for this were like $700 and unavailable at that time, someone offered to swap the rear plate to a new/different...

Re: Compressor not holding vacuum
I'm not a pro, but I think if you had schraeder valves that you would not need manual valves.

Re: Compressor not holding vacuum
On my 1984 Jeep Cherokee there were NO schraeder valves, if I remember correctly. The manual shut off valves simply either closed off either the compressor or the threaded fittings. Once I replaced its compressor with a used unit, and did not lose the remainder of its R-12 because I had the compress...

Re: 1972 F-250 R12 system refurb
I drained the oil out of the comp, it is orange and has a sweet smell. Is there any way to easily determine if it is mineral or something else? solvent test? When I was working, I could use FTIR spectroscopy to tell in 5 minutes whether the recovered oil was a non-polar R-12 mineral oil or the more...

Re: Filling R134a from high side in liquid state with engine *OFF*
pull a vacuum in the normal manner, and charge into the vacuum through the low side with gaseous refrigerant using an accurate refrigeration scale? It'll only take a few minutes, and the compressor won't engage anyway until you have sufficient refrigerant in the system. I'm NOT an AC professional, ...

Re: Evacuation procedure.
I myself observed a related/unrelated event about 4 decades ago on my sister's Datsun truck: The rubber fuel line to the mechanical fuel pump had a pinhole, so the fuel pump could not pull a vacuum, would just suck air through the pinhole. But no fuel ever leaked out that rubber fuel line. Funny too...

Re: Using Shop Air To Leak Test?
Desiccant won't give up its trapped moisture to vacuum during evacuation. Use nitrogen or a can of R134a for leak detection by bubbles, electronic sniffer, or UV dye. Hi, I see guys on U-Tube, using shop air and a soap bottle to find leaks in Auto AC Units. Yeah, and I see guys on YouTube riding bic...

To me, this is the biggest clue.WilliamK1974 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:30 pm I hooked up a set of manifold gauges, and they showed that the low side would either be at zero or pulling a vacuum, and that the high side could go up close to 300.
And note that sight glass is really not too useful on 134 systems.
