Re: Accumulator not sweating

Expansion valve systems use receivers, not accumulators.... never seen anyone replace an OT with an expansion valve and be happy...go back to OT and use original design.....

Re: A/C works after car has been sitting a few hours only

Classic symptom of a wide clutch air gap. When cold the coil can pull in the clutch driver, but once warmed up, the resistance is too great and that worn driver cannot be drawn magnetically across that wide gap. You need to remove a shim from behind the driver, remove the bolt, wiggle off the driver...

Re: A/C low pressure port showing slight vacuum

is it 45 degrees where you are at? Static pressure (engine off) should be nearly the same as ambient temp - so this tells me you are incredibly short, or shy on refrigerant- like maybe only a few ounces have been sucked in...Running in a vacuum also confirms this. A typical a/c system will hold 2 or...

Re: Manifold Gauge pressures

Yes I charge at a certain rpm---0 as in zero- I charge through the high side with engine off- filling the condenser with liquid refrigerant until my scale says the required amount is in the system. Then I start the car and suck in the hose refrigerant through the low side port.

Re: Intermittently working AC in a VW

Don't forget about air gap-- the next time it is blowing hot when it should be cold- look and see if compressor is turning- if not, tap it with a wooden hammer handle- if it snaps into action- you have a wide air gap, and a shim needs removed from in behind the clutch driver

Re: Looking for Help with my AC

You did just fine- there can be from 1 to 3 shims- but never NO shims-- so removing the only shim is just fine

Re: Looking for Help with my AC

Next time it is "off" when it should be "on" - pull over, let engine run, pop hood, use wooden hammer handle and tap on front of compressor- if it snaps on, then you have a worn too wide air gap- answer is to remove clutch drive, and remove largest shim and re-install such that a...
