Re: 1988 corvette, don't understand what it's doing?
you might want to use an infared thermometer and "shoot" the condenser in various spots to see if it is indeed plugged. As for aluminum fittings, sometimes you can drill a small hole in the nut, squirt Kroil I them and let them sit. And them use more Kroil multiple times. Praying helps.

And being it is a Ford product, you could have a problem with a blend door.

You can only flush the compressor by filling and dumping the oil a few times.

Re: Excavator a/c
Remove the sensor from the evaporator and let it hang loose. Does the vent temps go lower? It is very possible the sensor is bad. Was the compressor new ? Added info: I realize getting to the sensor may be a bear. Try this first. Run a wire from the compressor clutch connection to the inside of the ...

you can also find Tek-mates on Flea bay for a lot less and they are used. Figure to replace the sensor which are about $45. I use a Tek-mate on MVAC and they are fantastic for finding leaks.

Re: Evaporator fin density and differing TXV adjustments
Superheat is not used in MACV because the compressor does not spin at the constant speeds. The TXV's are different according to how much refrigerant is required to load each evaporator. Smaller capacity evaps call for less refrigerant than larger evaps but you will see less capacity in smaller evaps...

Re: Can a vacuum pump be "bad" despite pulling to proper Hg vacuum?
1000 or lower microns. It would indicate a working pump in my opinion. It's okay to ask questions. All answers are simply suggestions by those that may have knowledge of repairing a system. Not all of us will have the same opinion all the time. I respectfully disagree. A vacuum pump with a micron g...

Re: Sealant?
You must know what you're doing. It is only for small micro leaks. I put this product in a 1988 Chevy Van last year that took a refill every year. I checked it yesterday and it was still fine. I know the leak was in the evaporator and it was not worth replacing. It is the non-polymer type that does ...

Sealant?
It has been said many times not to add sealant to a system. That was years ago as now there is available new types. The problem is that you must know which type. Sealants nowadays is ok as long as you know what you're doing. Sealant is only for minute leaks. Many manufactures sell sealants and they ...
