Do you know how to visually check if the AC compressor clutch is engaging when the AC is on?

Not uncommon at all. Auto AC systems are designed to leak a tiny amount out of the compressor seal, to keep the shaft lubricated.

Would not hurt to check the AC clutch gap.

Had the gap issue on my '98 Frontier last summer, removed one shim to fix.
