Re: System on Fire Engine

I guess the question is, how is the cooling capacity with 47f air? Large volumes of 47f air can cool pretty well. I would wonder if the TXV has a poor CV match for the Evaporator size, causing the low discharge pressure, but I have a sample size of one here. No like I can compare the system to anoth...

Re: System on Fire Engine

High side numbers are looking pretty solid. It is moving some heat.

Low side is not terrible, the 14 psi and 47f discharge are a little harder to reconcile. Is this an E-One unit? Might be within their parameters.

Re: System on Fire Engine

Well, since you have recovered it, check the TXV inlet. Do you recall if the TXV had an inlet screen?

TM 31 compressor has a lot of volume, it is possible for those pressures to exist with high enough ambient.

Re: System on Fire Engine

Does not sound reasonable for just a low charge. What sort of system? CCOT or TXV?

I recall you had a truck with a half charge of refrigerant and a gallon of oil once. Any chance the same guy was there?

Re: 2003 MB E320 W210 R/D missing

"Bohica described the compressor as direct drive, always spinning and hence should be replaced because the system is open and the compressor will gulp in air. But... Turns out that this E320 uses a clutched AC. The compressor is not spinning continuously." Had YOU posted the correct model ...

Re: 2003 MB E320 W210 R/D missing

That car has the direct drive compressor. No clutch. An electrically operated control valve de-strokes the pistons wen cooling is not needed. So it has been turning since the day the R/D was cut out of the system. Hard to say what the compressor condition is at this point. There is a shear ring on a...

Re: 1985 chevy c20 now second time around with this

Presuming this is OEM equipment. A 5.7 (350 ) V8, with an R4 compressor. Original condenser was probably tube & fin. Most replacements today are parallel flow units. If the condenser is a parallel flow type, they are not flushable by the average consumer. A parallel flow condenser becomes the pr...

Re: AC With A Mind Of It's Own

Start with the basics.

Is the clutch engaging when it is NOT cooling? Is it engaged when it does cool?

Is the clutch gap way too big?

Re: GM A6 Compressor Oil

A6 compressors have an oil sump, and a gearotor type oil pump.

OIl should be placed in the sump of the compressor on the bench.

Re: K5 r134 conversion, where to go from here? Help?

John:

I looked at those evap line temps and thought the same thing, but figured it was undercharged with poor liquid delivery... based on an R4 compressor.

Eventually we will find out there are aftermarket brackets and a tiny sanden compressor. An electric fan of some sort.
