Re: Question about troubleshooting clogged condensor.
Tbird - I was poking a bit of fun at that guy with the hole saw comment. He got the car for free and had nothing nice to say about it or other members here. I have no idea if there is a way to truly do that, and do not suggest it for the average car hacker I have seen videos of new car assembly line...

Re: Cooling The Old Condenser
Yeah, keep the kittens away from the GM 1580696 fan however. One of the best answers for airflow on any reverse rotation fan application (back side of the serpentine drive). At 20 inches in diameter 10 blades, with no tip spill it sort of covers the argument about where to end the shroud... 2005 tra...

Re: Cooling The Old Condenser
The fan depth is less important than the radial clearance. Running a shroud with an extra inch of radial clearance is much worse than the depth issue. Obviously radial clearance was dictated by rubber engine mount clearance. As long as you have at lest half of the fan inside the shroud the tip spill...

I would just stay with 134a in that hybrid system

Re: High low side pressure, normal high side
The low side is high when only a small amount of liquid refrigerant gets to the hot evaporator. That 70 psi accurately reflects the refrigerant vapor temperature.

Re: R134a upgrade POA valve on a r12 system?
That is an R4. The actual part numbers are in the top part of the picture. You can run that compressor without a POA valve, but you will need either an evaporator temperature sensor or a cycling switch on the low side. Not clear where the TXV sensing bulb is located in that picture. Hopefully it is ...

That is a piece of pipe. Sold as an upgrade for a precision control valve.
Depending on what compressor you have it may or may not turn the evaporator in to a block of ice on a long drive.
Your compressor number comes up as a fan clutch for me. Which compressor do you have?

Re: High low side pressure, normal high side
Looks undercharged. You can't just add refrigerant and hope to hit the correct charge. You should recover it and weigh in the correct charge for further testing. While it is evacuated remove and inspect the orifice tube. If it is filthy replace it. You may have some ATC calibration issues, failed st...

Re: new self-sealing freon caps
I have been side tapping cans for decades. A quality side tap works every time. The operative term from Penguin is "almost" Obviously if it needed a handmade shim something is not right. I usually tap as close to the bottom of the can as is possible - where the swaged ring is. The most rig...

2003 model year, how many miles? Front A/C only, or do you have rear A/C? Those trucks are known for idler / belt / compressor issues. Look under it with the system running and see if the belt / idler is jumping and bouncing around Do a full load test. Doors open, cabin fan(s) on highest speed. Run ...
