Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system
I generally use a binary switch in the high side as a safety. Above 30psi the system will run, go past 450 psi and it stops. I realize the system can be very low and the compressor will start with that switch. But a failure that empties the system will shut the clutch off, and I needed an HPCO anyway.

Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system
Yes that evaporator has an expansion valve, and has O ring ports. It is 27 inches wide and 5.75 inches thick The vents will direct downward, not straight down but they do blow at the seats in a van. Cold air falls pretty well. I think you will want the remote fan control. With a rear TXV you shut do...

Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system
The front system looks like it probably does the job, and is well integrated with the vehicle. A 4 port heater core bypass to keep the hot water out of the cockpit is probably on the vehicle someplace - if not add one. The condensers look solid. Can you put fans on the second condenser? The rear eva...

Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system
Wow. Run an R4 compressor, then put a crap system in for the grunts. Typical .gov contract decision.
I don't know what the OE front evaporator looks like, but you might want a bigger one in the back. Got any pictures of this equipment?

Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system
OK, to put this in perspective, your OEM system would have been 56 ounces of refrigerant and unspecified oil. Are you sure this is the dual system spec? A 1990 Suburban for comparison: W/O rear air 52 ounces of R12 & 8 ounces of oil WITH rear air 84 ounces of R12 & 11 ounces of oil Moving up...

Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system
The elevation of the rear evaporator should not be a big deal. There were GM Suburbans with a big evaporator mounted in the center of the headliner. Yes, avoid traps in the suction lines. Condensers can be mounted much lower than the rest of the system. Many Isuzu COE trucks mount the condenser unde...

Re: Oil Fill Confusion, and a Mystery Item
Oil in the system is mostly transported along the surfaces of the components on the suction side. Refrigeration compressors are gas compressors. What leaves the compressor is hot gas and oil mist. The condenser eventually reduces the refrigerant to liquid, and yes the oil needs to be miscible. Once ...

Re: VDC control unit
Some of the answer depends on the refrigerant metering device in the car the engine is going in to, and some more information on the donor car / engine. First, all US reference books work from Year / Make / Model / Engine / Sub Model. A BMW "E" number may mean something to an enthusiast, b...

Yep Tim, Honda bought parts like that - and they got used across models.
The rusted out shroud assembly can be replaced too, just not going to hotlink it.
