Re: A/C Cycles on and off
That indeed is one of the symptoms of low refrigerant - you have a leak and are probably at about 15% refrigerant left in the system- best way to check is to have refrigerant extracted and weighed to know how much you have lost-- would just keep refilling a tire that goes flat once a week?

Re: low side low, high side high, compressor cycling
Put the factory specified amount in it- then test....too many variables if you don't know how much refrigerant is in there...If you extract and weigh charge- you'll know if you have a leak-- then look for oil and dye evidence-- or have a sniffer ran over it..

Re: 1989 F150 A/C freezing at Orifice tube
You answered your own question-- you said it never cycles- and compressor stays on even with no charge-- so that is what is wrong--make your cycling switch work so IT WILL AVOID FREEZE UP. as designed. If pump runs with no refrigerant in it- someone somewhere has bypassed the cycling switch - so fin...

Re: Adding electric fans to antique car
Wiring when a/c is on is okay- but use the a/c command from control head, not the compressor command- compressor can shut off for high pressure- and that is when you need the fan the most....Also be sure and use a relay in the circuit, you don't want to pull those big amps through a control head...I...

Re: Help with variable displacement dual evap system!
If control valve has a wire to it- then it is a pulse width modulated control valve. meaning the a/c controller "shoots" 12v at it to adjust it- much like a servo motor- so in some cases , there is no magnetic clutch (2012 chevy cruze for example) and the a/c relay is in the circuit to the...

Re: Help with variable displacement dual evap system!
5 ounces-- really? I assume you are using a machine instead of cans-- I would say from here that your machine is almost empty---there should be no problem putting the entire charge in the system in the high side after vacuum- Only time I have your issue is when my tank on my machine is near empty. N...

Re: Pressure testing a compressor
My method is mostly dye- clean off suspected areas with carb cleaner- then let it sit a few days if needed. Note - you can't use a leak detector once you blow carb cleaner - have to wait a day or two..

Re: Pressure testing a compressor
I once set up a bench test where I used a heat lamp over a refrigerant charged compressor- the light would warm the compressor and the pressure gage would rise slowly to 400 psi over 3 hrs time. I had a computer linked to a pressure transducer to turn off the light at 400 psi- the unit would then co...

Re: Replaced ac compressor, charged ac, no power to compressor
The ECM throws a negative to the relay coil to engage the relay and thus the compressor....so your issue is upstream- as in an ECM input- no codes get set when this happens, either the low temp thermistor is bad, or the high side pressure transducer is amiss- look for 3 wires at the transducer- one ...

Re: Head seems low on 98 GMC
Does compressor turn very easily, like with one finger? Are there little "catches" as you rotate cmpressor? Are there stainless steel chips in the orifce tube? If all are true- the your compressor has imploded suction reeds on one or more pistons.. and is trashed....just one way to recogni...
