Interesting. That chart supports my feeling that 3.0 x ambient is a maximum pressure.
Which vehicle is that?

Re: 1976 CADILLAC MIRAGE VIR AC SYSTEM
Sounds like an electrical problem. Sometimes there is more than one "gate" from the dash switch to the compressor. I would recommend getting the OEM wiring diagrams from Mitchell. You can buy a one month subscription to the factory service manual. Link below https://autoacforum.com/viewtop...

Not a lot of info about the system. But 1959 Cadillac you say?

Re: Pressures.
Tim: I use the ambient factor to evaluate a system. Biggest problem is testing parameters. Constant issue here on the forum, with people posting idle speed pressures. With the doors open, cabin fan on highest speed and engine RPM above 1800 I look for the high side to be Between 2.4 to 2.7 times amb...

We used to call that a recuperator. It recovers a little suction line energy to further cool the liquid line.
In the case of automotive manufacturers it also recovers a huge chunk of your cash when one of the many brazed joints fails...

Re: Thermal Expansion Valve - sanity check
Any service history on the equipment? It is cycling on the HPCO. Could be a blockage, kinked or damaged line, too much oil in the system. A TXV that is not opening will generally show a low side that drops to very low pressures, or even vacuum. The refrigerant should stack up in the R/D and condense...

Re: PAG oil in my R134a converted Mustang?
Definitely flush the old oil out of the compressor with some fresh PAG if it has been sitting. https://www.autoacforum.com/messageview.cfm?catid=20&threadid=12050 As for the system, do what you did before. Use the right quantity of oil, charge it the same way you did before. Sounds like a fun car

R4's do ok in the shaft seal, ignore the kid talking out his backside. Never jumper the cycling switch - it is there for a reason. No, you can't just charge to 30 psi on the low side. You need to charge by weight. I see no information about corrosion in the condenser, so again see my first statement...

Re: RV ac storage question.
Commercial trucking has been chasing this problem ever since California went after the emissions from idling diesel trucks with sleepers at truck stops. Several schemes evolved from manufacturers of various sizes... Some that run from a 24v battery bank, others that us a small engine driven compress...
