Is this the result of sealant?

Was all set to replace the control valve for no cooling at low rpm when I took the cover off and found this. That black stuff is like hard plastic. No way I can get the valve out.

Re: What is this scale on my manifold gauges for?

Let's imagine the needle is at the 30 psi position. The first scale (in light blue) is the R134a scale. The temp of the refrigerant at sea level is 35* F. This is important to know because? And the lower the pressure the lower the temperature. So at 10psi the temperature is only 8*F. That would be ...

Replace these schrader valves?

2008 Volvo. When I remove the caps, sniffer goes off when I stick the nose close to the opening. $6 each from the dealer. And should the cap o-rings be replaced too? No leak found with the caps attached.

First time I've heard of a dressing for a/c seals, so I had to have it. Check some local HVAC supply places. Found 2 near me, one that wanted $15 and the other for $6. Got the blue version.

Re: Diagnosing a compressor leak

Removed the compressor. It's a Valeo model.

Is a gasket kit available for this model? Or would a Denso kit work?

Re: Diagnosing a compressor leak

Sniffer hitting on the lowest point on the belly at the joint plus at both service ports if I get the tip right at the opening. Not sure if thats normal even if I blew some compressed air around it beforehand.

Re: What is this scale on my manifold gauges for?

Ok so what are the scales of the respective refrigerants for? I assumed that was the pressure of each one, i.e. if you’re diagnosing an R12 system you read pressure on the R12 scale.

Re: R134 Retrofit Procedures

Must be at least 10 years since dealing with an R12 system but back then I used a "drop in" replacement called Autofrost. Other brands were Freeze12 and Hot Shot. That's not an option?

I've have this set for a few years and it does both R12 and 134A systems as well as R22 home a/c. Since I usually evac and charge by weight I haven't paid attention to the actual numbers much, but what is the outer scale for?

Re: Diagnosing a compressor leak

You could buy a rebuild kit and clean all the sealing surfaces and put in new o-rings and keep your compressor- that's what I do. It can be the greatest compressor in the world, but if it leaks it is no good as it is.... Yes that is what I was planning to do but think I should pick up an electronic...
