Re: Diagnose Faulty Expansion Valve

Thanks, John. I'll follow your suggestions. I replaced the drier, but as you mentioned, there could be some blockage coming from the desiccant in the old drier. The 2.2 lb. charge was my best charge guesstimate (and what the Volvo conversion data sheet specifies) as I fitted a parallel-flow condense...

Diagnose Faulty Expansion Valve

I'm hoping that someone can help me diagnose what appears to be a faulty expansion valve in a 1990 Volvo 240. The car was converted over to r-134a about 8 years ago and worked great until it developed a hole in the condenser. I replaced the condenser as well as the drier and vacuumed the system down...

Re: PAG-oiled components in former mineral oil systems. Corrosion Issues?

OK great, but that doesn't answer my initial question about using components that were initially used with PAG oil in a system that used to have R-12/mineral oil.

How is that different from the ester oil I'm currently using? I bought it from AMA.

PAG-oiled components in former mineral oil systems. Corrosion Issues?

Are there any corrosion concerns when using a compressor and condenser from an R-134a (1993 Volvo 240) car in a system that originally came with R-12/mineral oil (1992 Volvo 240)? It seems like I've read that the remnants of the PAG oil that will be present in the compressor and other components wil...

Universal Parallel-flow Condenser

Does anyone know a source for parallel-flow condensers that have the inlet/outlet pointing perpendicular to the long axis of the condenser? I've bought and used the more commonly available ones where the outlets are inline with the flues, but it sure would be easier to work with one with the inlet/o...

What does that mean and why is it relevant and/or useful?

Re: Various Scales on Manifold Gauges

That is basically a P/T chart for both R12 (white scale) and R134a (Red / blue scales) It is used as a quick reference. So what you're saying is that the red/blue scales used as a quick reference when the system has been equalized after a few hours rest as a quick test and not used when charging/ve...

Various Scales on Manifold Gauges

On my Mastercool gauges, there are three separate scales. An outer one for PSI readings and two inner ones, one labeled R-134a and the other for R-12 along with various numbers which I assume represent degrees Fahrenheit. How are these inner scales used? I'm asking specifically about the blue scale ...
