Re: High Pressure issue R4 Compressor Chevrolet Tahoe

Hot wire the fans to 12volts as a test. As soon as the key is turned, the fans come on.

Re: R12 -> R134a 1989 Porsche Kit Questions

I have never seen brass caps for R134a either factory or replacement. You can get them for R12 systems thru HVAC supply stores.

Re: R12 -> R134a 1989 Porsche Kit Questions

Thanks Tim and Cusser, It looks like HNBR O-rings come in black or green. They may not be exactly the same (e.g. different durometer) https://www.globaloring.com/oring-colors/ I guess I'll assume the QD fittings for R134a will be OK. It makes sense after all this time at least the R134a fittings sh...

Re: What is this scale on my manifold gauges for?

I had to copy your image into Photoshop to sharpen it enough to see the scales. Let's imagine the needle is at the 30 psi position. The first scale (in light blue) is the R134a scale. The temp of the refrigerant at sea level is 35* F. The next scale (green) is the R22 scale. At the same PSI, the tem...

Re: questions

Best way to verify a refrigerant charge is to recover and weigh the proper charge. As you get experienced, you can fudge it. In today's vehicles, the charge is small so a few oz can make a difference.

Re: readings and what may be wrong?

And mat we ask the model of the vehicle? Refrigerant should be added as to proper amount by weight; not by measuring voltages at transducers.

Re: Few small metal flakes on orifice tube but oil seems clean

Metal flakes probably came from compressor. I would replace the condenser also. It depends upon how long you will be running the vehicle. I would flush th3e system.

Re: low side service port

Those ball type "shraders" are known for this. The caps are the primary seal and the shraders are the secondary seals. I would not worry about it.

Re: R12 -> R134a 1989 Porsche Kit Questions

If you use a micron gauge, you will probably run into the problem that the micron gauge has 1/4 inch sae flare fittings and you will need an adaptor to get to acme fittings. They are available.
