Question: ACKits.com hoses

jsmitty on Thu April 02, 2015 12:01 AM User is offline

Year: 1986
Make: Mercury
Model: Grand Marquis
Engine Size: 302
Refrigerant Type: R12
Ambient Temp: n/a
Country of Origin: United States

Just wondering if the 3 hoses on this model vehicle sold at ACkits are barrier hoses? Just curious. Don't really need, but would like - less leaks = more money in my pocket.

- YF1771 liquid line

- 34-63314 suction hose

- 34-63320 discharge hose

I've finally decided to stick with r-12 - bit the bullet and threw down a hefty chunk o'change for a virgin DuPont 30 pounder. Should last me a while.

All hoses made these days are with Barrier Hose.

I had a feeling, but wasn't 100% sure on the older stuff. Thanks TRB - appreciate the info.

Wow, I don't suppose you'd mind sharing how much you paid? I see virgin 30 lb tanks of R12 on eBay going for $800-1,000. Actually, I shouldn't say "going for" as I really just see those listed for Buy It Now at that price so I'm never sure what they really sell for.

Two days ago, I picked up a 50 lb tank of R12 locally from an AC guy who has no need for it anymore. I paid $460, which I thought was a good deal. It's a partial tank, but total weight is 52 pounds so I figure that's well over 40 lbs of actual R12.

Just wanted to update this to mention that the suction line 34-63314 I posted above will not work with the '86 model. Earlier models had the nut and o-ring - my '86 has springlock connectors.

Just an FYI in case someone else ends up needing to replace this line in the future. ACkits has all the other lines correct for my year, but does not have the suction line for some reason.
