GM R4 belly leaker

WyrTwister on Sun June 22, 2014 5:38 AM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1991
Make: Chevy
Model: Caprice
Engine Size: 5.0 l
Refrigerant Type: R134A
Country of Origin: United States

I went about trying to replace gaskets and seals on this R4 . Removed the clutch & coil and the " hub " that contains the shaft seal . Could not get the rest of the compressor out of the metal " shell " .

Help , please !

Thanks :-)
God bless
Wyr

The shell presses pff from back to front- I use an arbor press and another shell off another R-4 once you move it a 1/2 inch it slides off with ease.

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Thanks , :-)

Will have to borrow a press or figure out how to do it with a bench vice .

God bless
