No cold air in 2002 Grand Am

wearend on Tue May 27, 2014 9:30 PM User is offline

Year: 2002
Make: Pontiac
Model: Grand Am
Engine Size: 2.2
Country of Origin: United States

I have no cold air. Compressor spins. Clutch is always engaged when air in turned on. It won't take any freon. I don't have access to gauges to check the pressures right now. Any ideas before I try to find a gauge?

Number one failure mode is loss of refrigerant due to a leak- highly suspect V-5 compressor case halves= your system is a variable compressor- it will run with as little as 5% of the system charge in it- without cycling

Have the system recovered and refrigerant weighed to confirm loss of refrigerant.

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......
