Recovery machines, tanks, etc.

I have a Mastercool 69100 recovery machine kit which is aimed at automotive work. There isn't one Youtube video on a machine of this type being used on automotive work but many on others that are used for HVAC work and by HVAC techs.

All the HVAC videos show connecting to the liquid port on the recovery tank. The instructions for the 69100 and 69000 state to connect to the vapor port for vapor/liquid recovery although a diagram in the 69000 instructions show the hose clearly going to the liquid port. The only time the liquid port is used for push-pull.

Another confusing difference is recovery tanks for automotive, the blue valve is liquid and the red valve is vapor. HVAC recovery tanks are reversed. This was confusing till I found the "Y" valves for sale for both listing the different color labeling. Why would that be different?

EDIT:
Noticed that the knobs are labeled, red is liquid and blue is vapor so MC diagrams showing the dip tube on the tank on the left side are wrong.
