'71 Ford - convert to R134A or ???

BDG on Mon July 02, 2012 2:37 PM User is offline

Year: 1971
Make: Ford
Model: Torino
Engine Size: 351
Refrigerant Type: R12
Country of Origin: United States

I bought a '71 Ford this weekend that had factory air but the previous owner removed all of the components...said it leaked down quick and he didn't want to fix it. The condenser is falling apart so I'd need to buy that, a drier, and an expansion valve at a minimum. I have three used compressors and was hoping at least one would be good...also have two sets of factory R12 hoses. I searched the site and looks like Freeze 12 isn't the way to go...but if I switch to R134A I haven't found any options for different expansion valves so I'm not sure how well it would work...I'd have to basically use all of the R12 components. Do you guys think I'd be ok with using the R12 components and retrofitting or should I go with a different approach?

There's plenty of R12 around. Check ebay

I'd like to stay with something I have though...which is all R134A equipment.
