Hi - Newbie here. Miata recently stopped cooling. Pressing button to activate AC illuminates light, AC activated cooling fan runs, compressor turns but no cooling from air vents.
Engine off measured +8 low and high.
Engine on/AC on measured -25 low and + 25 high. The high is obviously not so good, I've learned enough here to be looking for at least 2.2 x 70 ...
Thoughts?
Thanks !

Check for signs of leaks. Is the compressor clutch turning on? Seems odd to be pulling a negative number without a restriction.

Thanks for the quick response.
Just checked again. Turning the A/C "on" definitely turns the compressor hub (as well as lighting the "AC" light on the dash and turning on the AC cooling fan on the radiator).
Pressures read -25 L /+25 H with AC on. Turning the AC off they quickly equalize at +15 L /+15 H
No obvious signs of any leaks on the hoses.
Thanks again,
Frank

Well you need to find out how much refrigerant is in the system. Very odd for thew system to be allowing a negative pressure is charged correctly. Has anyone added a refrigerant with sealer in it?

We bought the car used in 2002 so I can't speak to the history before that. Since we've owned it - nothing has been added to the AC system. AC has worked fine the entire time - until two weeks ago.
With my limited knowledge here, I would have thought low refrigerant - but that doesn't square with the compressor spinning as the low pressure switch should inhibit that?
Thanks again ...

Could have a defective switch plus little to no refrigerant.

Your car has almost no refrigerant left. It must have leaked out.
