Bearings can be replaced. Most clutch sets require special tools to do this job. Sometimes the tools cost more than just replacing the compressor itself.

Depends on the shop. Many prefer to do a total compressor replacement. Most shops have a standard they try and achieve. Replacing a bearing to have the compressor fail a week later is not cost effective for the shop. Makes then look bad as if they did something wrong. Bearings can go bad. But many times a bearing failure is related to something else.

Check around where you live. You may find a shop willing to take it on.
