Is PAG compatible with both r12 and r134a?

No only R134a and even then it should only be used in specified vehicles.

ok, thanks...i purchased a new compressor to use with my r12 system but the manufacturer ships it preloaded with PAG46...if i want to run r12, is it ok to drain the compressor [sanden SD507] and fill with either esther or mineral or do i need to clean the compressors' resovoir somehow? I know i cannot flush a compressor

TIA

I had similar situation. The rebuilt compressor for my '88 B2200 truck (from this board sponsor) came pre-loaded with a PAG oil (I tested it at work, infrared spectrophotometer, FTIR). I drained out the PAG oil, filled it with refrigeration mineral oil, rotated the compressor through several cycles, then drained, repeated, then drained again and added the correct amount of mineral oil. This was approximately 2003, and it's still running great (practically every day, Arizona).
