2007 Honda Civic A/C help

Year: 2007
Make: Honda
Model: Civic Si
Engine Size: 2.0
Refrigerant Type: r-134A
Ambient Temp: 90
Pressure Low: 25
Pressure High: 225

Hi everyone...long time no chat. You guys have helped me immensely in the past and I am back again with a new (to me) vehicle and some A/C issues.

I have a 2007 Civic Si that I've owned about 2 months.

It has been hot here in Maryland and I've noticed at the traffic lights that the air is only feeling a couple of degrees colder than the outside air temp.

In the morning in the garage (80F degs) the compressor cycles on and off..I am still new to this car so it is hard to tell when I am driving all the sounds yet (i.e. compressor cycling at lights/while driving,etc..)

Anyway - I put the gauges on it one afternoon and it did not cycle, but the readings are:
(1,700 RPM)
Low = 25
High = 225
Ambient = 92F
Vent = 78F

At speed, the A/C works great, however, it is noticeably warmer sitting still. I should probably check the obvious to make sure the fans are running, etc..etc...but you guys are the experts, so maybe if my refrigerant readings are off, I figured you could tell me right away.

Thanks - look forward to the feedback. I cannot tell you how many vehicles & friends my AMA equipment has helped service over the years!

My first suggestion...of course...would be to recover and recharge the AC system. This new system only specs 14.5 to 15.68 oz of refrigerant. At this recharge level, the slightest amount of undercharge could contribute to a loss of cooling efficiency. Also at this point we begin to see possible compressor issues due to lack of lubricant flow.....things are getting very critical...more so each year. Lube charge for this vehicle is 2.5 to 2.83 oz of PAG 46. Suggest to not add lubricant to the service procedure.
Condenser fans could be a concern.....but refrigerant level would be first on a check list.

iceman - thanks for the reply. I hear a fan click on, but I haven't stuck my nose under the hood yet to verify anything else except check pressures. Thanks for the notes on the capacities..I haven't even looked that up yet. You are right..the tolerances are getting tighter and tighter!!!

I do not have the facilities for recovery...would a reputable shop be able to tell me how much refrigerant they recover?

A good shop with modern equipment should be able to monitor the amount of refrigerant recovered. This is required by some states.....can not recharge the customer for recovered refrigerant.....!!!
