2001 Chrysler T&C, dual air, Hot Hot Hot

maher871 on Sat July 17, 2010 12:28 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 2001
Make: Chrysler
Model: Town & Country
Engine Size: 3.8L
Refrigerant Type: R134a
Ambient Temp: 88
Pressure Low: Pinned
Pressure High: 170
Country of Origin: United States

I'm at a loss, van has dual air and it blows hot air. There is a leak in the low corner of the condensor. It won't take any R134a and the vent temp will only go down to 80 when on the highway. I am in Jersey and I'm trying to make it cold again for my wife so she doesnt make me buy a new car. PLEASE help my pocket out. Thanks

New condensor 154.74
New compressor 284.07
New Dryer 11.28
O ring kit 15.62
TXV rear 18.53
TXV front 59.68

Flush both evaporators and all lines. Re-assemble with new components. Add oil charge, evacuate & charge.

Still cheaper than a new car.

What causes the low side to pin?

Air in the system, refrigerant at underhood temps, compressor that is not pumping...

The system has a leak. Low on the condensor. You kept topping it up. The oil left through the leak. Now you are flogging a dead horse, running the compressor with no cooling, and no lubrication. The debris should be localized within the evaporator and receiver. Flushing the remainder of the system still needs to be done.

Because flushing requires breaking the system down to components, the TXV's should be replaced - they are 10+ years old & hard to get at if they crap out next year.
