Ok here goes. I have installed a sanden 508 compressor on a orignail a6 system. flushed all componets,Installed new reciver drier, expanshion valve and vacumed for 1.5 hrs. Installed 1.00lb r12 freon watched gauges 10 low side 110 high side noticed after expansion valve line into evap. is frozen.shut down car and read gauges balanced out high and low side approx 95lbs both gauges. Now when installing just .25 lbs more freon low side 90lbs high 125lbs still tube going into evap cold, the hose at the top of evap room temp, compressor discharge hose hot. no cooling inside car.I have tried adding more freon but low side locked on 90lbs but high side goes to 175lbs +their was ester oil in comp at 6.5ozs I just took off compressor to recheck oil and found none at comp.I have recheck all hoses for blockage none found. Does anyone have a direction for me thanks peter

help needed

A one pound charge is not enough refrigerant to return oil to the compressor in a system that large.

What did you do with the STV? Was it inspected and / or tested?

Where were you reading the 10 psi low side?

The stv valve was gutted and blocked with a kit from old air products. I am hooked up at the low side at stv valve orignail fitting .The high side is at the end of 90 degree fitting going into the condensor.I started with one pound because i could see the low side at least move any charge after that would be a 70-90 low side reading.high side would go up too. thanks for you reply could the new sanden compressor be n/g on the suction side where it could only handle 1lb freon and then loose its suction capabilities, where i would see the low side high readings?

Well you should consult with whoever sold you that train wreck.

destroying an STV valve was a waste of time. Using a compressor with 66% of original capacity on a system that large is also a waste of time.

6.5 ounces of oil in a system with nearly 5 lbs of refrigerant capacity is not very much. Adding a 1lb charge simply sent the oil into the receiver. Continued charging might have saved the compressor when it was @ 10 psi on the low side - if you got enough in to move that drop of oil back to the compressor before it started to grind itself up.

That tiny pump on a huge system will never cool like the OEM compressor did. If it was bulk charged with enough oil it will work, but poorly. Gutting an STV valve is a mistake. Not only does this leave you with a bang-bang control system, but you just destroyed a long out of production part that you could have sold to someone that needed one.

Sadly the companies that pump out garbage like this continue to grow, and offer no after sale support. They sell you a cheap compressor, some sloppy instuctions - and run like hell. You wind up on a board like this looking for help. I am sure you will not be happy with this frank reply, but you got had.

Call the bums up. Tell them to replace the oil starved compressor at no charge. Ask them for technical help with the installation. Post your results.
