Anybody use this newer Robinair vacuum pump?

atikovi on Tue June 29, 2010 8:50 PM User is offline

This 8CFM model number 15800 for $330.

I have an older 4CFM Robinair model that works great but may consider getting a larger unit now that I've got a connection with a tool warehouse. Like most machinery made in the last 10 or 20 years, everything seems to have dropped in quality. Anyone use one of these and if so how do you like it?

That appears to be a chinese knock off sold by Robinair to compete with the cheaper pumps on the market, mastercool also offer an "economy" vacuum pump(s) I suggest the Mastercool pumps, never had a problem with them, can't speak for the Robinair though.... for quality, Mastercool, both the economy and standard pumps..The best in my opinion...

Seems to be a single stage pump. The dual stage Mastercool pump would be a better pump in my opinion.

Why do you say the Robinair is Chinese?

I can get this Mastercool 90066 for $203

As I stated, seems to be a single stage pump. If that is what you want got for it. Personally if I needed a 8cfm pump. I would want a dual stage pump!

It's not that I like it but its the one I'm considering. I posted about it here to see how others that have it like it before I buy it.

I don't have that model or have used one but I do have a Robinair #15600 6CFM two stage pump that I have used for about four years with no problems. It works great. This is their "Cool Tech" series of pump which I think is a little higher end than the pump you are looking at. I did have to use Robinair's #15495 tee to replace the one that came on the pump so that I could use the pump with both R12 & R134a.
