Dessicant Bag Ruptured?

r12best on Wed June 23, 2010 10:52 PM User is offline

Year: 1986
Make: Toyota
Model: Corolla
Engine Size: 4ALC
Refrigerant Type: R12
Country of Origin: United States

When I charge R12 into my 1986 Toyota Corolla, I get good cooling, but the foamy bubbles in the sight glass never clear up no matter how much refrigerant I add. Does this mean the dessicant bag inside the receiver-drier has ruptured? If so, can I simply replace the receiver-drier or has
dessicant contaminated the whole system? If contaminated, what is the procedure to remove it?

You could have moisture and/or air in the system. Did you evac before charging? Purge the lines before charging?
