Compressor Oil Confusion

4.0_olds on Wed June 16, 2010 8:17 PM User is offline

I'm trying to get my A/C system working in a small farm tractor and there is some confusion on compressor oil. The tractor uses a small Harrison/Delphi model SP-10 ten piston compressor.

The plate on the side of the compressor specifies Dow Chemical UCON 244 oil which I think is a PAG100. The Dow data sheet says 100 viscosity at 40 degrees C.

The service manual for the tractor specifies PAG46.

Which one should I use????

The quantity of oil on the compressor information plate is 8 ounces which would probably fill the compressor to the top. Do I pour all 8 ounces into the compressor and will most of it leave the compressor and distribute into the rest of the system?

Thanks for any help

I would use PAG 100 and adding the 8 ounces to the compressor is fine. Juts turn the clutch hub a few times to move a little around before charging.

Thanks, I will do that. Could you or anyone else double check the Dow link I posted and make sure I'm reading it correctly. It doesn't actually say PAG100 but I'm looking at the viscosity and assuming that is what the 100 means.
