I have access to some NOS R12 cans but the tops are rusty - will this cause a problem? I plan on sanding off the tops the best I can.
There won't be rust on the inside...
You could use a side can tap. It works like the top tap by poking a hole in the can, but uses the side of the can instead so it wouldn't matter if the top is rusted.
So, can the rust become a potential issue? I'll have to see if my AC guy has a side tap available.
If it rusts through and springs a leak that could be a problem. Other than that no.

Now, given I am converting from Freeze 12 back to R12 with a car with 58k on the clock, do I really need to change the accumulator or a 2hr vacuum should do it?
