1980 Chevy 3/4T - Condensate drain?

brimac50 on Wed September 09, 2009 4:56 PM User is offline

Year: 1980
Make: Chevrolet
Model: C20
Country of Origin: United States

I acquired a beater 1980 3/4T Chevy, and pulled the evaporator housing to re-seal at the firewall. I cannot find a drain provision for the condensate. My 70' Chevelle has a drain at the bottom of it's evaporator case. That is a TXV/POA system. This 80' is a fixed orfice system, and I'm puzzled about the condensate issue. Currently the ac is non-functional, so visual observation is not possible. What am I missing, that the GM engineers knew? Thanks

Opps, after a detailed closer look, ... there is a drain hole in the case, by the firewall. I'd been looking for an obvious molded drain, like my Chevelle.

Yep, your evaporator drain is molded into the lower case half, just like my 78 El Camino.
A 5/16" drill bit helps prevent future clogging issues.
