Extra Nipple on new compressor

glembke on Fri August 14, 2009 1:02 PM User is offline

Year: 1984
Make: Buick
Model: Skylark
Engine Size: V6
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 85
Pressure Low: 0
Pressure High: 0
Country of Origin: United States

I just got a 134a conversion compressor from A/C kits. The old compressor had a red nipple on the back of it. One of the lead from the connector connects to the clutch. Can I just bypass the connector and tie them together?

Sounds like a high pressure switch. Take the switch out of the old compressor and put it in the new one, replacing the plug that's there now. If you bypass the switch, you risk blowing a hose or something should the pressure become abnormally high.

My bad... didn't see the snap ring under the grime on the old one and didn't look close enough to see it on the rebuilt one (it was under the paint). Thanks for the reply!
