2005 Saab 9-3 2.0l turbo compressor shaft seal

GM Tech on Wed July 29, 2009 11:27 AM User is offline

Okay- so while I'm researching shaft seals--the boss steps up to me- his boy's pregnant wife's car -- 2005 Saab 9-3, 2.0l turbo compressor has a massive shaft seal leak-- holds charge about 4 hours- has oil sling-(as described by investigative husband and father) the dealer says they can't find the leak- but charged him $150 for the 4 hour refill.....they did not even look for it.....I haven't seen the car yet....

Boss says- can't you fix a Sanden shaft seal????

WTF- I can't even find anyone who sells this pump---let alone the model number etc---After 20 minutes researching on-line- I turn to my friendly experts on this board--- does anyone know if seal is replaceable? by design-- or anyone who sells it-- or what a reman pump costs? or a new one? this car may as well have been made on Mars.....I really hate to go to the Saab dealer for parts.....

I'll go check used parts- sometimes you can get one off a car 3 or 4 years newer......

Thanks

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

I have actually recently sold one of these compressors. If I remember from my Cadillac days (Cadillac, Hummer, Saab dealer), the shaft seals are not replaceable. You have to buy the compressor. I will try and track down a price for new and reman. for you quick. Shoot me an email and I can get you the prices. [email protected]

Master Tech 2044 or 2054 - GM Tech I can sell them for just a little over cost plus freight. My supplier can't say which on is for that year other than there are two options for the Sanden 3211.
