Ford Spring Locks

honestlou on Sun July 19, 2009 9:30 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1987
Make: Ford
Model: F250
Engine Size: 7.5L
Refrigerant Type: R-12
Country of Origin: United States

I flushed and added 10 Oz. of oil to the system. Ran the vacuum pump for 3o minutes and it would drop in about 10 minutes. It has a spring lock that just does not want to seal. I added a little refrigerant to find the leak. I replaced the two "O" rings and the garter spring. I have seen there are some locks that you can put over the coupling to seal them. Any ideas where I can get one? Thanks

the junk yard are full of them.. But you need to "hone" out the fitting with very fine emery cloth or scruffy pad to clean up any corrosion that might be in them, then clean it well, lube the O rings with Nylog and it should be fine... Hope this helps.

Like Chick said, being free of corrosion and foreign material is critical. There was an old thread here about Ford selling slightly oversized o-rings for a better seal, but also it was mentioned that if you were to go to a Ford dealer and ask for them they often wouldn't know what you were talking about.
