Year: 1992
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Camaro
Engine Size: 305
Refrigerant Type: R12?
Country of Origin: United States
I went to add some freon to my 1992 Camaro and am confused by one of the service ports. Car was originally built with R12. I have no reason to believe it has been changed. The service port on the receiver/dryer has the correct connection for an R12 gauge set. On the line near it is the other service connection. The thread size is smaller than that used by an R12 gauge set. It looks similar to an R134a connection but will not connect to that either. What do I have here?
Could you post a pic?

For "safety" reasons, GM and Ford R-12 AC systems of that vintage used the standard 1/4 inch flare for the low side connection and a smaller flare fitting for high side. Of course the GM and Ford systems high sides were different from each other, so each type required its own adapter (I have them both). I used the GM-type brass adapter for my '88 Suburban and still use the Ford-type brass adapter on my Japanese-built '88 Mazda truck. Board sponsor should stock the adapter.
Call them 602-233-0090 and see if this is the correct one for you. https://www.ackits.com/pc/90358/chargeadapter/90358+-+Service+Port+Adapter

Being a 92, it could also be the GM "deep throat" high side, if you can see the shrader valve in it, it may take the "special" GM high side adaptor..
the one on the bottom of the page 91-93 GM high side service port adaptor
