New shop startup cost

MikeH on Sat July 11, 2009 2:52 PM User is offline

Tim,

A friend of mine is thinking about opening his own auto AC shop. Of course, I turned him on to you guys but, I was wondering, just what is the startup costs these days. I'm guessing for all of the needed equipment we are talking about $10K.

That's about right for a start up doing R134 only. If they wanted to service R12 you would need a second R & R machine. Of course there is all the personal tools, parts and a place to operate!

I don't think $10K is even close!

Figure $4k for 1 AC machine.

We paid $1500 for our identifier.

I paid $300 for my Mac leak detector.

You can get a nice lift for $4000.

I personally own over $40K in hand tools. I don't use every tool on every job but when you need that 3rd ball and socket swivel to get that line off an Excursion your glad you had it.

How much is shop rent there? Here it's $3K and up in the industrial area and $10K+ on Main St.

$3200.00 for a new Mastercool R134 R & R.

$500.00 for a good Vacuum pump.

$800.00 for a Identifier

$350.00 for a crimping tool.

$200.00 for gauges.

$200.00 for a Tek-Mate

$100.00 for sealer identifier.

$350.00 for a Mastercool Master Compressor Service set.

That's $4900.00 You can buy a lot of hand tools for what's left over. This is for tools not a place to operate the business!

Add in a Scan tool and you are at 10K minus personal tools.
