R-4 Compressors

pomai on Wed July 08, 2009 5:23 AM User is offlineView users profile

I have a new A/C Delco compressor #15-20226 V-Belt for my full size chevy Blazer. I'm installing a serpentine belt drive system from a 1990 Camaro.

would a serpentine clutch from a 1990 Camaro R-4 compressor #15-20227 fit onto a R-4 compressor from my 1988 blazer.

Can the clutch interchange between the to R-4 compressors?

Thank you very much,

Ed

It will interchange as long as it's not the older four pole R4, looking the part number you gave, shows the newer V-groove which will take a serpentine clutch.. The older four pole compressors are easily recognized by the bolts around the clutch holding the two piece pulley assembly.. hope this helps..

Thank you very much for responding.

It looks like my compressor has 3 bolts holding the clutch pulley assembly together.
Does that sound correct? Im not sure if I understand correctly.

Thank you very much again,
Ed

Been a while since I saw them, but if the bolts are going thru the clutch's outer surface like they are holding the two piece pulley together, it's a four pole, and won't interchange with the regular press fit one piece pulley It will look like a big bulbous clutch pulley instead of a pulley, and clutch driver..with a single nut in the center shaft..I'll see if I can find a pic..hard to explain...

Here is a pic of the R4 4-pole compressor, if yours looks like this, you can't use the serpentine clutch assemblies

If your V-groove pulley looks like this one, you can use any modern serpentine pulley/clutch you want..Hope this helps.
