Sudden warm blasts

elfiduntov on Mon June 01, 2009 1:11 AM User is offline

Year: 1994
Make: Buick
Model: Roadmaster
Engine Size: 5.7L
Refrigerant Type: 134A
Ambient Temp: 95
Country of Origin: United Kingdom

Otherwise normally operating system suddenly blows hot air intermittently from dash discharge outlets. System will then resume normal discharge of cool air. Have heard an occasional spontaneous groaning and clicking sound from within the upper passenger side instrument panel during the cooler months when only heat was called for by temp setting. Possible actuator motor problem? Thanks for any help.

More than likely a bad a/c relay- does compressor turnoff when this happens? A/c relays were problem in '94 models- just bump it and compressor will come on (if it is off)

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......
