24 volt to 12 volt compressor

trip-l-jax on Sun May 31, 2009 3:22 PM User is offline

I am in the maintenance section in the Army National Guard. We have been having compressors seize on our 2008 M1165 HUMMWV's. They have a 24 volt compressor, and are hard to get at times. Are there any disadvantages to using a resistor and 12V compressor on this system?trip-l-jax

(NEW COMPRESSOR)
AM GENERAL CORP (34623) MISHAWAKA, IN
P/N RCSK17567
FRIGETTE INC (042W1) FORT WORTH, TX
P/N 04-04534

$578.00 through our system which shows back ordered forever.
Roughly $2200 from Kascar

This is why I am asking about using a 12 volt if the are not any disadvantages.

What type failures are you experiencing? Is it clutch or compressor related?
If the compressor is the failure, determine why....and if the clutches are functional, why not simply replace the compressor body itself. Reuse the OE 24 volt clutch on an aftermarket body.
