High and low side pressures reading the same

azadam on Sat May 30, 2009 5:53 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1995
Make: Saturn
Model: SC2
Engine Size: 1.9L
Refrigerant Type: R134A
Ambient Temp: 90
Pressure Low: 75
Pressure High: 75

Both high and low sides read the same pressure and the system doesn't seem to be able to pull any more refrigerant into it (only 1 small can was pulled). Is this a sign of blockage somewhere in the lines or another problem? Oh, here's what I've done to get to this point.......replaced compressor, drier, expansion valve.....flushed and blew out lines....vacuum pumped to 29hg's for 30 minutes....no vacuum loss after sitting for 4 hours....began charging process, got nearly all of the first can in and that's where I'm at now. Thanks for the help!

Wow, Saturns are taking the field this season as the most weird pressure related problems.. You do need to charge them just right. First, what kind of compressor are you using? Reman, used? you need to get the full charge in, Maybe with the engine off let the vacuum pull it in liquid. Thru the high side, then finish with gas thru the low side. You might need to find a shop to charge it with a machine if you can't get it in.. Do a search on the board for "SATURN" there have been a few with similar problems this season all ready..

Between your comment Chick and a couple of other sources I was able to get nearly 3 cans of freon into the system (8oz cans, spec calls for 1.5lbs). Now, the pressures don't read the same on both sides but they aren't normal either, and the system is only blowing cool air, not cold. High side 100psi, low side 60psi @ 2000rpm and 85 degree ambient. Should I go ahead and add more freon or do I risk damaging something if I do? Thanks for the help!
