What type of oil....

DontKnowSquat on Fri May 15, 2009 11:50 AM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1981
Make: Buick
Model: Turbo Regal
Engine Size: 3.8
Refrigerant Type: R134a
Country of Origin: United States

My system was charged up and functioning well with PAG 150. My coil went bad, so I wanted to repair it. When I attempted to remove the clutch, I broke the shaft, (it was frozen in). I eventually was able to remove the clutch, but I had already ruined the shaft. Before buying a rebuilt R4 unit, I searched the internet for options. I found a NOS Delco shaft unit for Corvettes and Firebirds on E-bay circa 1981-1982, (price, $69.00). Wow! did I get lucky.

Well I'm putting together this thing fairly well so I ask, it's NEW....what oil would one recommend. The system was charged up with PAG 150. Should I just stick with this oil?

Thank guys!

We don't know if the system was flushed before adding PAG, but if it was, I'd leave it PAG unless you flush the system again.. On retrofits I use BVA auto 100 ester, never had a problem yet..
