should I put oil into new condenser AND dryer?

pippo on Thu May 14, 2009 5:30 PM User is offline

Hi Guys,

wondering, when one replaces JUST a condenser with dryer, should one replace oil "lost" by adding say, 2 oz into each? system before that was only 2 yrs old, and ALL the oil went into the compressor.

Secondly, doesnt the system eventually kind of "balance out" the oil in the whole system anyway?

Thanks!

Sure it balances, so it's important to add back the oil that you removed with the drier and condenser, also how much is the total oil amount? Not all are the same, some systems use 8 ounces, other just four.. But yes you do need to add oil back, replacing it in the drier and condenser is easier because you can pour it in the lines.. Hope this helps..

Chick,

Thanks v much for your valuable advice. Now, initially, the system called for 6 oz. Now, it was easy for me to add about 2 oz to the condenser. So, when you say I can add to the tubes/lines, can I add about 1-2 oz down the end of the line connecting to the dryer heading to the condenser? Otherwise, I must use some type of syringe to add directly into the dryer, but that could be a mess of spilled oil.

Thanks.

Add it anywhere you can, not a problem, you just don't want compressors to start dry...
