GM High Side Adapter Fitting in 1990

extramile on Sun May 10, 2009 1:54 PM User is offline

Year: 1990
Make: GMC
Model: Sierra
Engine Size: 305
Refrigerant Type: R-12
Country of Origin: Canada

I know I need an adapter fitting to work on my A/C but can anyone tell me where I can get that adapter. Can my local GM dealer still get this fitting for me ??? If so would I be lucky enough to have anyone on here give me the GM part #. Can't imagine going into the dealership and trying to explain this to the parts guy that wasn't even born when this truck was made, thanks.

Check out Mastercool service adaptors but I'm not sure the 90 has the "deep throat" high side, if it does, use the GM 91 to 93 adaptor shown on this page..Hope this helps..

Better call them first at to make sure that one is appropriate for GM.

After manufacturers changed from 1/4 to 3/16 for the high side to prevent accidental switching, "of course" GM and Ford had to go different routes for this. So there are two types of adapters (I have both myself). I used the GM adapter on my 1988 Suburban (when I had that Sub) and still use my Ford adapter on my 1988 Japanese-made Mazda B2200 truck. If you have the correct adapter, it's straightforward.

Thanks for the help, sometimes the old things aren't as simple as what we think they are.
