o-ring lifespan

pseyle on Thu May 07, 2009 1:43 PM User is offline

Year: 1996
Make: VW
Model: Passat TDI
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: United States

I've got a leaky A/C system. Presumably a very slow leak. Before I do anything I would like to know if it would be wise to replace all the o-rings in my system? What is the lifespan of an A/C o-ring? (system is PAG + 134a)

Thanks,
-P

If a connection is not leaking, don't mess with it! If you have to break a connection for a repair use a new o-ring with some Nylog on it.

About the same as you and me - until we are done

Seriously, shelf life before install, condition of sealing surfaces, application temperatures, chemical compatibility, chemical makeup, and more and more and more; will all be contributing factors. Basically, way too many variables exist to nail down a time frame.

Thank you. I guess I'll not replace all the o-rings in the system. I'll just find the leak, fix it and recharge as needed.
