Accumulator/Dryer Interchangeable??

Year: 1999
Make: Mercury
Model: Mountaineer
Engine Size: 5.0L
Country of Origin: United States

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

I need to replace a few componentss in my A/C system due to a compressor failure.
One component is an accumulator/dryer.

Snooping around the junk yard I have found many vehicles with 4.0L 6 cyl. engines and the accumulator/dryer looks almost new.
I have a 5.0L 8 cyl. engine, Could you tell me if the accumulator/dryer from the 4.0L vehicle will work with my vehicle which has the 5.0L engine.

Any information will be very appreciated.
Thank you.

Do not use a boneyard dryer.

Especially when a replacement is readily available - and CHEAP.
If you had a compressor grenade, you have plenty more to replace anyway. That vehicle has a paralell flow condensor, which is nearly impossible to flush when a compressor grinds itself to pieces. I believe that year also used the one piece hose assembly, with orifice tube...

Do it right - or do it over & over. New compressor, condensor, orifice tube and accumulator. Flush the remaining parts completely, and dry to bare metal.
