94 Honda Civic - Exp Valve needed?

scoob8000 on Fri April 10, 2009 9:56 AM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1994
Make: Honda
Model: Civic
Engine Size: 1.5
Refrigerant Type: 134a

Getting ready to flush the system and replace the compressor/accumulator on my 94' Honda.

I know you're supposed to replace the o-tube on vehicles that have them, but is the expansion valve the same?
It's a cheap part, but tearing the dash apart to get at it...

FWIW, the previous owner removed the compressor because he claims it siezed up. I have a used compressor and condenser to install that was pulled from a working system.

Thx

The glove box will have to be removed to access the suitcase for the evaporator. The evap box will be able to be removed by it self, not hard to remove at all. It call for 1.3hrs to R&R the expansion valve no this time does not include flushing the evaporator.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Yes it is quite simple to pull the evaporator box out. Remove the entire box from the car first, then take the clips off that hold the top and bottom halves together. Open it up to disconnect the TXV.

Whether you replace the valve or not, do not attempt to flush through an expansion valve. You must disconnect the evaporator to properly flush it.

If the other system was complete, you could also take the evaporator box out of the parts car and use it instead.

I might as well just replace the TXV then anyway since I'll have it apart to flush the evaporator.

Hate to threadjack my own thread, but which and how much oil does this system call for when dry? (I don't have a book for it yet)

So I need to order then: (Already have nylog, manifold, vac pump, and flush gun from my last AC rebuild)

Accumulator
O-ring kit
TXV
Flush solution
Oil (See above)

System calls for 5 ounces of oil but I would add 6 if I were doing the repair.
