Storing Compressor?

In searching I found the following regarding storing a compressor.

I store them standing on their nose with oil in them..Then drain the oil and use new before using the compressor..Hope this helps.

This was Chick's recommendation I found in a 2005 thread. Is this still the best way.

I removed a nearly new compressor from a Mercedes that was totaled and I want it as a spare if the one in my other car goes out.

It does seem like no oxidation can take place if the entire compressor is filled with oil.

The inlet and outlet ports need to be sealed airtight. This will keep any moisture from getting in and causing corrosion. PAG and ester oils readily absorb moisture from the air if left in an open situation.

Hi Ron:

This is off topic. I found a post dated 2006 from you regarding a Benz compressor clutch bearing. You were looking for a compressor bearing in that thread. At the end of the thread, you said that you found the replacement bearing and that all is well. I need that bearing too and can't locate one. Where did you buy the bearing? The compressor was a Denso 7SB16C.

Thanks,
Bob

E-mail Tim or one of the guys at Ackits.com and I'm sure they can get the bearing for you.. Give them the make, model and year, as sometimes they do change the nose on the compressor. Unlike GM that used one bearing for 40+ years...

I have a friend who owns a mercedes repair shop. He had a brand new mercedes bearing, pulley, and clutch assembly from a kit to repair compressors. Since they did not repair compressors anymore because of the labor costs and all he just gave it to me. I got lucky.
