Motorcraft a/c oil

Dale7905 on Tue September 09, 2008 10:20 AM User is offline

Year: 1991
Make: Lincoln
Model: Towncar
Engine Size: 4.6L
Refrigerant Type: r-12
Country of Origin: United States

Hi All,

I've just replaced my a/c condenser and accumulator/drier in my 91 Towncar. I've been trying to find the Motorcraft YN-9 mineral oil ( viscosity 500 and wax free) which the service manual calls for to add to the a/c system before closing it up. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Can anyone give me an idea of where to purchase that oil or recommend a good substitute?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Dale

That was a beautiful commercial full of eloquent marketing wording, designed to make you feel as though it is a far superior product and therefore is well worth the higher price. The condensed versions would read, "meets Ford spec".

Motorcraft is nothing more than the private label branding that must be applied to any product you sell to the Ford Motor Company. Ford does not make engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, refrigerants, filters, antifreeze, spark plugs, etc., their vendors do. These same vendors sell their products under their own and other brand names such as ACDelco, Mopar, etc.
