97 JETTA - Where is the Evaporator Housing Drain Tube?

carizzio on Sun September 07, 2008 8:53 AM User is offline

Year: 1997
Make: Volkswagen
Model: JETTA

When using the A/C after it's been on a while I hear water sloshing around, if I turn on the defroster I get water spattering up through the vents, I get a light mist coming though the cabin vents and no puddles under the car indicating that the condensation is draining out. Water also drips at the passenger's feet.

Everything indicates a clogged Evaporator Housing Drain Tube but can't find the little bugger. I went out and bought a repair manual which references the drain tube but doesn't say where it is or show any pictures. I've been searching around the internet with similar results and then I found this website.

Can anyone help point me in the right location?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

attached is a pic....sorry it is all i can come up with right now. the drain tube gets clogged and can be cleaned. on these cars, the evap drains along the firewall. the drain comes out flush with the wall and is covered up by a cut in the insulation and a rubber valve. directly behind and below the exhaust manifold you should be able to see the cut out. simply pull the flap up along with the rubber drain valve and clean away. most people simply remove the whole rubber drain valve anyway and just let it drain like a normal hose. hope this helps.
