R12 Replacement Hoses

69-er on Sat September 06, 2008 7:38 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1983
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Camaro
Engine Size: 305
Refrigerant Type: Enviro-Safe
Country of Origin: United States

I have an 83 Camaro that needs new hoses installed. I am using an R12 replacement refrigerant.

Can new hoses be re-crimped back on the fittings? Somebody told me that this wasn't possible anymore because the only hoses available are the barrier type which will not fit the old style fitting.

If that's the case, how are replacement hose constructed? Do they have different fittings to mate with the barrier hoses?

Thanks!

Larry

Any decient shop can cut off the ends, weld on barb fittings and crimp on new hoses.

Please tell them you put a hydrocarbon refrigerant in there before they start cutting or welding.

That's the second time I've heard someone suggest welding on new fittings. Cool idea.

BTW, I will have the hoses off and cleared before any welding is done. Good idea.

Thanks guys!

Larry
