This is why we wear safety glasses

You DO wear safety glasses, don't you?

Anyway, this happened when I was checking the charge on my F150. I had everything hooked up and engine was running and I was monitoring the temps and pressures and BOOM!!! Of course followed by HHHHHHIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS as 134a was venting.

The failure was where the line was crimped to the valve. This set of lines is approx 3 years old and I have used it many times with no problems. High-side pressure when it failed was 230 or so.

I was standing on the other side of the vehicle, so all I got was a slight misting of oil vapors. If I had been on that side, I would have gotten a face full of 134a. Still, the safety glasses did need a good cleaning after that (along with my shorts!).

As my mentor and guru always taught me, NEVER laugh safety in the face. Always wear that protective gear!

Yeah, had I known about ACKits back then I'd have a nice set of Mastercool hanging in my garage instead. I'll be upgrading very soon. Gotta replace the Hydra-Krimp that was stolen out of my garage first though.

That sucks! Probably on Ebay right now! We just had a news report last week of a couple dudes that worked at Wal-Mart stealing and selling on Ebay. They set boxes of Ipods, gameboys and so on by a back door. Buddy would pull up in a truck and they would go have a"smoke break". Report said they sold over 40K the past few months. Never understood how someone can think something that normally cost $100.00 dollars is not hot when it selling new for $25.00 on Ebay.

Obviously there is a big difference between cheap and inexpensive.

Thanks for the reminder not become too complacent in our safety practices.

See grounds here for a major product liability lawsuit, if physical damage was done, but if you weren't wearing safety glasses and their instructions told you to, wouldn't have much of a case.
