seized ac compressor or seized pulley

Tlpayne on Wed September 03, 2008 12:22 PM User is offline

Year: 2002
Make: jeep
Model: liberty limited
Engine Size: 3.7 v6
Refrigerant Type: 134
Country of Origin: United States

My pulley seized up and broke the serpentine belt. The ac was working fine although there had been a squealing noise coming from the pulley(bearings). The clutch will turn, though it is rubbing against the pulley a little, pulley appears to be warped. How can I tell if the compressor is siezed or if it is just the pulley?

I would suggest changing the compressor, since a new clutch assembly is almost as much as a compressor. You can e-mail the guys at ackits.com for prices on new or reman, they may even have an offshore replacement compressor that could be less than the clutch assembly..Just ask them wht optuions are available on that compressor..Anything else is a crap shoot at best..Hope this helps..
